The Department of Science and Technology together with its entity, the Human Science Research Council will kickstart Africa Day with the convening of the 8th African Unity for Renaissance International Conference and an Africa Day Expo from the 23rd till the 24th of May 2018.

The event will host experts from all over the continent to discuss Africa’s industrialisation and associated benefits. With particular attention on the global and local policy, institutional regime, hard infrastructure, local and regional economic linkages, human capital development, national systems of innovation and the role of natural resources endowment which all support industrialisation.Therefore the theme for the event will be “Accelerating industrialisation in Africa: Implications for Job creation and Poverty Alleviation”, and this will take place at the Saint George Hotel in Irene, Pretoria. The event will then be concluded with a celebration at Ditsong Museums of South Africa on the 25th of May 2018. This event all forms part of South Africa’s commemoration of Africa month aimed at bringing together thought leaders and academics that want to see Africa move forward, and will have a platform to share their ideas and hear others’ views on key factors. This conference is organised in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology, Thabo Mbeki African Leadership Institute, Tshwane University of Technology, City of Tshwane, International Council for Science, Water Research commission, University of South Africa, and Ditsong Museum of South Africa.
